WINNIE LOO (hairstylish)



Winnie Loo is synonymous with the hairstyling industry in Malaysia and helms the country's most prestigious group of hair salons. Her achievements are most commendable, scaling the heights of fame and success in a field which has been predominantly dominated by men.

Winnie's interest in hair and fashion began when she was still in school. Upon completion of her secondary education, she left for London in 1976 to pursue an intensive course in hairstyling. Trained by the world's best, including hair maestro Vidal Sassoon, she returned to Malaysia in the late 1977 and soon opened her 1st salon in Wisma MPL (formerly known as Wisma MPI).

At that time the hairdressing industry in Malaysia was at its infancy. Winnie had a flair for turning trends around and setting new ones. Combining professionalism, quality service and modern equipment, she was instrumental in revolutionizing the local hair industry and bringing the trade into a new perspective.

Winnie's contributions in helping to shape the Malaysian hair industry to what it is today have gained her not only local but also international recognition. In 1997 she was the 1st Malaysian to be awarded the World Master of the Craft by the Art & Fashion Group of New York , an honor no other Malaysian has been bestowed with. Rightfully, she received this prestigious award for excellence and effort in upgrading the standards in the industry.

In 2003 she was invited to attend the Blue Sky meeting in Hamburg , Germany . A prestigious meeting by leading Schwarzkopf ambassadors around the world. Currently, Winnie is the Vice President of Malaysian Hair Association since 2004 and also the Vice-President of Asia Hairdesigners Association. Widely acclaimed for her talent, she has an enviable clientele that reads like a veritable Who's who in Malaysia and regional countries. It comprises the rich and famous, the distinguished and titled.

Winnie established A Cut Above in 1979. Her husband and partner, Richard Teo, oversees the management of the company and its team of more than 250 staffs and is still growing with 2 more X-Cut chain salons in the next few months.
