HONG LEONG YAMAHA

Hong Leong Yamaha's humble beginnings started in 1978, when Hong Leong Industries Bhd & Yamaha Motor Co Ltd of Japan signed the franchise agreement to venture into the manufacturing, assembling and marketing of Yamaha motorcycles in Malaysia.

The first unit of motorcycle roll-out in December 1979 was the RX100 model, a street bike with a 100cc engine capacity. This was followed by 3 additional models, the Yamaha 80, DX100 and DT125 in 1980. Since then, Yamaha has emerged as a market leader through strong brand imaging, innovative model planning, promotional and customer orientation programmes as well as the development of a strong and extensive dealer network.

This commitment to innovation coupled with an enterprising spirit has led Hong Leong Yamaha to move aggressively towards achieving its "One-Millionth Bike Out" 15 years later in January 1994.

In its quest to face ever-changing business challenges both regionally and globally the Hong Leong Yamaha Complex was officially declared opened in 1997 by Yang Berhormat Dato' Seri Rafidah Aziz, the Minister of Trade & Industry of Malaysia.

The majestic complex, sprawled over 36 acres of land at Sungai Buloh was completed at a cost of RM100 million. The complex accommodates three companies; Hong Leong Yamaha Distributors (the marketing arm), Hong Leong Yamaha Motor (the assembler & manufacturer of components & metal parts) and Hong Leong Yamaha Research Centre. Through purposeful centralization of its operations under the same umbrella, coordination and cohesiveness is further enhanced to meet with the challenges of an ever-changing business environment.

Today, Yamaha has in its stable 6 model line-up ranging from mopeds to streets, featuring Yamaha's 2-stroke and 4-stroke technology. Yamaha's line of products has been nurtured by a desire towards building products and initiating services that truly fit the needs of the times, creating values beyond the expectations of customers.

This commitment to excellence that is shared by all the Yamaha family has become the unique Yamaha excellence that Yamaha customers have come to expect of the brand.
