NKC was incorporated in Malaysia on 26 March 1996 as a private limited company under the Companies Act, 1965 in the name of Ngiu Kee Corporation (M) Sdn. Bhd. In preparation for its listing on the Second Board of Bursa Malaysia Securities Berhad, it was converted into a public limited company on 23 May 1996 and assumed its present name. It is an investment holding company with its subsidiary companies involved in the operation of supermarkets and departmental stores in East Malaysia .
