Launched on April 3, 2007, Firefly, your community airline, is operated by Fly Firefly Sdn Bhd, and is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Malaysian Airline System Berhad. Operating out of the Penang and Subang hubs initially and now the Main Terminal Building of Kuala Lumpur International Airport, Firefly provides connections to various points within Malaysia, Southern Thailand, Singapore and Sumatera of Indonesia, aligning itself with the Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT-GT) agenda.

Subang, home to a modern and convenient city airport, is the perfect touch point for leisure and business travellers; while the award-winning Kuala Lumpur International Airport offers Firefly a valuable opportunity to expand its operations further and facilitate travel through FireFlyz's new fare and fee structures that offer greater savings.

FireFlyz aim is to bring communities closer by overcoming geographical constraints through FireFlyz's network of point-to-point flights, link the world to the communities FireFlyz serve and contribute to local economies by growing trade and tourism. Thanks to FireFlyz code-share arrangements with Malaysia Airlines, FireFlyz’re also able to introduce the wonders of Southeast Asia to travellers from beyond this region.

The name Firefly (in Mandarin fei1 ying2) was chosen to depict the airline’s characteristics, which are agility, brilliance, charm, and fun. Being unique and evocative, Firefly is easily recognizable and has the potential to grow and command a brand premium in the future. It won’t be long before Firefly becomes a household name!
