Junior Chamber International Malaysia (JCIM)

NAME
Junior Chamber International Malaysia (JCIM) is a National Organization of the Junior Chamber International chapters in Malaysia. This organization is affiliated to Junior Chamber International (JCI), a worldwide leadership development organization for young people between 18 to 40, which welcome all nationalities, races and religions.

MEMBERSHIP
There are about 1324 Malaysian members from 39 local chapters in Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak.

PURPOSE
The purpose of Junior Chamber International, as outlined in the JCIM Constitution are to contribute to the advancement of the Global Community by providing the opportunity for young people to develop the leadership skills, social responsibilities, entrepreneurship and fellowship necessary to create positive change.

HISTORY
The first Junior Chamber was found in St. Louis Missouri, USA, on the 13th day of October 1915. On 11th December 1944 in Mexico City, the World Organization – Junior Chamber International was founded. Junior Chamber Malaysia began as a separate organization in early 1954, i.e. Peninsular, Sabah and Sarawak. However, in 1976 they merged to form Jaycees Malaysia but maintained their regional status. It was only in 1981 that the three regional organizations were dissolved giving way to the present National Organization. The National Organization was changed from Jaycees Malaysia to Junior Chamber Malaysia in 1992. It is currently known as Junior Chamber International Malaysia (JCI Malaysia).
